In Flanders Fields

With Anzac day fast approaching I'm looking at this classic WW1 picture book. Beautiful and striking line and wash illustrations perfectly capture the sombre mood. This is a book about hope and kindness in the darkest of times and based around a Christmas ceasefire in the trenches that actually happened. Brilliant Australian children's author Norman Jorgensen cleverly weaves in other narrative elements, while also referencing the famous poem by Canadian John McCrae.
